This might be an article your children would enjoy reading since this chip is the same one Sony uses in their PlayStation 3. It certainly brings home how much power is required to create the images that are output from seismic.

Planned Outage Notice!

AAPG Domain to be down for the weekend.

Good news, Everybody!

There is a major upgrade happening to the AAPG Network this weekend. However, this means the Web site will be offline for a period of time.

According to a notice from our IT department they will begin work on this outage at 8:00 am (CST) Saturday, February 27 and it should be completed by 9:00 pm (CST) Sunday, February 28 … sort of. The truth is it could take only four or five hours to complete; however, it is prudent to plan for 48 hours in case of unforeseen troubles.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may create. We appreciate your understanding and hope this early notification helps.

The Latest Buzz Word (Phrase?)

“Social media.”

I seem to hear about it constantly. I have a Twitter account. I have a Facebook account. I have a LinkedIn account. I follow a YouTube channel (or two). I subscribe to a few Podcasts.

Last night I caught up on Conan O’Brien’s last two shows as he leaves NBC. (Wow!) I did that through Hulu.com. I’m considering getting Netflix because I like movies and it’s cheaper than Pay-Per-View.

So, how about you? What are the many (or only) social media resource(s) you tap into?

Twitter fascinates me because, as a woman, I find it very challenging to write 140 characters or less. I like a challenge.

In this last batch of video interviews from Denver ACE2009 Scott Tinker, AAPG past president, talks about various issues related to petroleum geology and the oil and gas industry. He discusses what he calls the four Es: Energy, Environment, Economy and Education as well as “green” economy and renewable energy; comments on Al Gore’s documentary “An Inconvenient Truth” film; and talks about overcoming misconceptions people have about the oil and gas industry. Tinker and Don Clarke also talk about the importance of educating the public.
