Join us for a new e-symposium with Brian Stambaugh that shows you how to find overlooked and underexploited pay zones. It will take place on October 6, 2011 at 10 am CDT. The e-symposium contains several case studies and log examples of bypassed pay and unconventional resources including Niobrara, Bakken, Marcellus, offshore GOM and others examples including processed log quality issues. Basic principles of log response in bypassed and low contrast pay / unconventional resources and processed log quality will be presented to the class. The e-symposium is focused on pattern recognition and quicklook techniques, and using different techniques for recognizing unconventional pay from wireline logs.
By participating in this e-symposium, attendees will be better equipped to:
- Identify possible bypassed pay from logs in a variety of sediments.
- Understand the mechanisms causing low resistivity and low contrast pay zones.
- Understand the effects of clay, shale and laminations on log response and understand the potential effects of each on reservoir performance.
- Understand typical log response of shale reservoirs.
- Understand the impact of bed resolution of logs.
- Understand the effects of natural fractures on log response and on reservoir performance.
- Perform basic quality control of processed logs.
- Understand basic considerations of shale gas and shale oil log analysis.
- Recognize situations where additional logs, core, or other information might be needed for proper formation evaluation.
- Have improved skills in recognizing unusual log signatures that can indicate an unconventional or bypassed resource
